From Houston to grand canyon arizona 1440 miles and 20 hrs drive ? Need tips for long drive from ? please?
hey, i need some tips that i am going for. I am planing to go grand canyon , arizona from where i am right now houston on may 20 . I looked in google and GPS , its like 1440 miles and the drive is of about 20 hrs. I am using my car that is HONDA CIVIC EX 1999 its has new tires and it has ran 115200 miles. before leaving i will check my car by a mechanic and will chage the oil. will i can make it to grand canyon coz i need to go there any how. But all depends on my car . will my car be good to go for such long drive. Please if some body is professional let give me suggestion i really need it. like what i have to do before leaving , and what i have to take with me.
You are doing the right thing by having the car looked over. Make sure when they do your oil change they top off all fluids. I have a 96 Civic Del Sol and it has been on several cross country trips and worked like a charm. Make sure you not only check the spare but fill it up with air before you go (had that one happen) also bring a can of fix it flat you never know when you are going to need it. I would also check and make sure you have everything to change your tire. Take a small emergency kit (you can buy one or make one) also take a small first aid kit with everything from band aids to aspirin. Again you never know what you might need. Take a jug of water for the car and throw some in the cooler for your self. Take snacks, drinks and stuff to make sandwiches on you trip. Saves money and there are rest stops all over. Also if you get tired stop and take a nap. A 30 minute power nap can do wonders, driving tired is no joke and you want to get there alive. Make sure you look over your maps before you go that way you will be familiar with them. Carry some cash but don’t carry hundreds of dollars worth use your debit card or travelers checks that way if they get stolen you can get your money back. Also make a copy of your insurance card and ID in case you loose yours, don’t forget to take your medical insurance card, if you have an HMO tell them you will be out of state so you have coverage. Take a cell phone car charger and make copies of all the important numbers in your phone. Let someone know where you are at, when you are stopping and that kind of thing. Be sure you windshield wipers are good you never know when a storm will pop up and you want to be able to see. I always make some road trip CD’s for a long drive with a lot of different music keeps things exciting, you can also get those books on tape (however they put me a sleep). You might also want to take a flash light and a blanket just in case something happens and you get stuck. Other than that have a great trip!
